Last weekend before we did our first major grocery stockpile of the new year, we were down to the dredges in our kitchen. Seriously. We had three cans of black beans, some oatmeal and frozen turkey from Thanksgiving. Okay, it wasn’t quite that bad but it felt like it! I decided to google turkey and black beans and see what came up. This recipe from Food and Wine was the third link and I decided to give it a go.
- Instead of bacon, I used real bacon bits, because we had them on hand.
- Instead of deli turkey, I used our frozen thanksgiving turkey.
- Instead of chicken stock, I used bouillon.
- And I added extra black beans because for some reason we had accumulated a stock pile
I was really happy with how it turned out. The broth wasn’t as think as the broth in the photos from Food and Wine but it was good enough for me!
